General Statement of Position: 

This position is responsible for the maintenance and support of computer service requirements for the township’s computer network, in addition to technical responsibilities of hardware and software applications including personal computers, township cable station, and voice communications systems including Township-issued cell phones.  Works under the direct supervision of the Director of Information Technology.  

 

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs daily troubleshooting and resolution of software/hardware issues.  Assist staff in the identification and resolution of technical system software and/or hardware problems, and prepare appropriate reports
  • Set-up and install hardware equipment such as PC’s, monitors, printers, scanners, etc.  Install and configure new PC software/hardware; support the project management of Township-wide initiatives.  Supports Township-wide initiatives in cyber security awareness and other initiatives as directed by the IT Director
  • Perform day-to-day operation and maintenance of the LAN/WAN system, including maintaining regular back-ups of all system data
  • Implement standard operating procedures for the day-to-day operation of the LAN/WAN system
  • Maintains LAN/WAN security and promptly reports any security breaches through the established chain-of-command
  • Identifies and troubleshoots the resolution of connectivity and/or operational issues with all Township agencies connected to the LAN/WAN
  • Coordinates the training of departmental staff in the LAN/WAN system’s operation and use of standard software, including the preparation of training manuals and/or instructional guidelines and procedure
  • Technical assistance and maintenance of cable station hardware and software applications, and webcast vendor management
  • Must be available for “after-hours” system emergencies and is a member of the Emergency Management Team
  • Supports multiple satellite facilities

Required Key Technical Skills and Knowledge:

  1. Knowledge of Local/Wide Area Network (LAN/WAN) technology and topology including, but not limited to, Server 19, Microsoft Windows networking, Ethernet connectivity, and TCP/IP protocols.  Must have ability to learn and administer existing network and desktop computer and software systems
  2. Experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Microsoft Windows 7/8/10, Microsoft Windows Server 2008/2012, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Exchange and Intel-based PC hardware in a networked environment
  3. Basic Knowledge of the theory and application of network management, network operating systems, network topology and connectivity, and the ability to troubleshoot software and hardware problems
  4. Have, obtain, and maintain knowledge of the current practices in the areas of local and wide-area networking, business applications, Internet/Intranet operation, data communications, and telecommunications
  5. 2 years professional level experience in systems analysis and personal computer or mini-computer hardware and software operation and maintenance; MCP/MCSE training/certification and/or equivalent certification;  additional computer skills (e.g., database, GIS, HTML) and/or experience in a municipal information technology department; telephony experience a plus

Required Education, Certification, License:

Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a closely related field (or equivalent specific training)

 

Desired Education, Certification, License:

A Plus, Net Plus, Security Plus CCNA or Network Certificate

   

Physical Requirements:

  1. Frequently required to sit, talk or hear; daily required to walk, use hands to operate, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; required to crawl and/or work in cramped spaces (e.g. under desks) during the installation or troubleshooting of PC’s, printers and associated equipment. 
  2. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. 
  3. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.

Additional Requirements:

Effective 9/1/11, all employees of state and local government must reside in the State of NJ, unless exempted.

Must have a valid NJ Driver’s License
