Abstract:
Rectified Version of the United States Census Bureau's Census Blocks for Montgomery Township, Somerset County, NJ. The Township GIS Staff used the township's Road Centerline, Railroad, Stream Centerline, and Municipal Boundary Data to create this Dataset. The US Census Bureau's TIGER 2000 File was used to determine what road centerlines, stream Centerlines, Railroad, and Municipal Boundary was needed to properly rectify the dataset.
Purpose:
This dataset was created so the township could utilize the US Census Bureau's Block Level Data. The US Census Bureau's TIGER files are very spatially inaccuarate, and could not be used effectively by the township. The township's Census Block Dataset should be used in conjunction with other township GIS datasets.

Process_Description:
1) US Cenusu Bureau TIGER Files were examined to determine what road centerlines, railroad centerlines, streams, and municipal boundaries wre used to create the polygon boundaries of each census block.

2) The Montgomery Township road centerlines, railroad centerlines, stream centerlines, and municipal boundary polylines that make up a census block polygon boundary were copied into a polyline shapefile using ArcView 3.2 and Edit Tools 3.2 Extension.

3) Polylines were cleaned and polygons built using ArcView 3.2 and Edit Tools 3.2 extension.

4) Attributes were added using US Census Bureau TIGER Census Block File.

5) Shapefile has been imported into the township's geodatabase and intergrated with topological similar feature classes.
