Saturday, September 10th, 2 to 4 PM

Province Line Road has that improbable name because that is precisely what  it is—a fragment of the dividing line between East Jersey and West Jersey.  At least, that was the intent behind a 60 mile straight line surveyed, marked, and mapped by George Keith and his crew in 1687. It was a truly remarkable feat considering the primitive equipment they worked with, and the unexplored wilderness they traversed from the Atlantic Coast to the South Branch of the Raritan River.

Two venerable  land title experts, Bruce Blair and Joseph Grabas, will present a show-and-tell of ancient tools those long ago surveyors worked with, and regale us with tales of who, how, and why an artful  dodge made surveyor George Keith’s line unacceptable. Even so, it remains an ineradicable element of New Jersey history and maps!  Expect to be entertained as well as informed!
