Emergency Shelter Needs

Code Blue Emergency Shelter

When temperatures drop below freezing or the wind chill is severe, Somerset County utilizes Code Blue to activate warming centers and shelters. Code Blue is an order that counties in New Jersey trigger that allows more people to seek refuge in shelters or warming centers. If you need shelter, you can call the statewide homeless hotline at 211 or 877-652-1148. The Code Blue Alert is also shared with local media, social media outlets and the NJ Statewide Homeless Hotline.

We encourage everyone to check in with neighbors during the winter, especially older residents and people with disabilities. Your moment of support can have a profound impact on a neighbor in need.  During a severe weather event, Montgomery Township Offfice of Emergency Management may also activate a warming center at the Otto Kaufman Community Center.

If you or someone you know needs additional support during the colder months, Montgomery Township Health Department can be reached at (908) 359-8211 ext. 2227 and can provide assistance connecting you with resources.
